Earlier this summer, I decided I would edge my gardens with some rocks.

I started this project by collecting rocks from around our property, but it quickly became apparent that not only wasn’t I going to find enough, but it was going to be tough to lug them all to the area where I needed them.

So, I went to the local rock place (yes, we have those here) and asked if they could deliver about 350 six to eight-inch boulders to my driveway.

This was when I learned that they only sell rocks by the yard.

“So, how many rocks are in a yard?” I asked.

After doing some quick arithmetic, I was told there were about 75 to 100 rocks per yard.

“Great,” I told them. “I’ll take 4 yards.” I figured if I had a few too many, I’d find a home for them somewhere.

And so the next day (such excellent service!), a small dump truck showed up and put about 3,000 six to eight-inch boulders on my driveway.

Yeah, that’s a LOT more than I needed.

But there they were.

So, the last few weeks, I’ve moved, stacked, edged, and basically used as many rocks as I can in my gardens. I even stacked a few and made some cute little inuksuk’s here and there.

The edging actually looks quite nice as the variation in the color of all these rocks is stunning.

But I’ve barely made a dent in the pile of them.

And honestly, I have no idea what to do with the rest.

Does anyone know if one can return rocks?

Do you think they’d just send their cute little dump truck back to pick them up if I asked?

No?

I’m now considering e-mailing the neighbors to see if they can use them. They’ll probably think I’m crazy, though.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what to do with extra rocks?

Pinterest peeps, you got anything?

Sigh.
